Plastic Bag Ban

Our first project and the project that launched Sustainable Crested Butte was Crested Butte’s Plastic Bag Ban.  In August of 2016, Sustainable Crested Butte succeeded in getting the town council to sign an ordinance banning single-use plastic bags, with a few exceptions, in the town of Crested Butte, beginning September 1, 2018. Read the town’s ordinance in full, here.

Water Bottle Filling Stations

Sustainable Crested Butte raised money to install two water bottle filling stations in town.  One station is in the 4-way stop bus stop and the other station is location inside the 2nd and Elk Bus stop. Our hope is that this will simplify filling reusable water bottles for locals and visitors, thereby cutting down on purchases of single use plastic water bottles.

Borrow a Bag Bin

We have put a bin in Clark’s Market where you can bring your spare, clean, reusable bags for others to borrow.  When you go to Clark’s and forget a reusable bag, you can borrow one from the bin, free of charge. We are always in need of bags for this bin! Remember to bring in your extra bags and help us spread the word about this ongoing program.
